Pesticides and Chemicals in Tampons and Pads?

Pestycydy i chemikalia w tamponach i podpaskach?

Conventional pads and tampons are made mainly from a blend of wood pulp and cotton soaked with petroleum‑derived chemical absorbents, and to achieve a white colour they are bleached with chlorine. During the chlorine bleaching of cotton and cellulose, dioxins are released – highly toxic chemical compounds with carcinogenic effects. They also weaken the immune system and can cause very rare cancers of the lymphatic system. Dioxins do not break down; once released into the environment, they remain there.

Pesticides and chemical fertilisers are used in conventional cotton cultivation. When these substances come into contact with the delicate mucous membrane of the intimate area, they immediately penetrate directly into the bloodstream. It has been proven that toxins can enter a woman’s body through the vaginal walls.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

The disease mainly arises due to the TSST-1 toxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus. It mainly occurs in women who use tampons. During menstruation, the body's immunity decreases, and the staphylococcus, which most likely inhabited their reproductive tract, multiplies, using the blood in the tampon as a nutrient. The effects of the TSST-1 toxin can be deadly.

Signs of illness include high fever, muscle and joint pain, kidney and liver dysfunction, diarrhoea, skin peeling, headaches and dizziness, burning skin, sore throat and even disorientation.

Although TSS is a very rare disease, 50% of recorded cases occur in women aged 15–25 who use tampons.

How to safely use intimate hygiene products?

Women who use tampons should remember to change them regularly and frequently, at least every 3–4 hours, and that they should not sleep with a tampon in.
Tampons should not be used in any kind of intimate infection, when using an intrauterine device or when taking vaginal medications. In such situations, pads are a better choice because they allow menstrual blood to flow out of the vagina. This reduces the chances of bacteria, which have already attacked the intimate area, multiplying further.

Unfortunately, there are also many concerns about the composition of the intimate hygiene products we use; the problem lies in the synthetic additives.

That’s why we should choose tampons and MASMI pads made from 100% organic cotton. Thanks to their natural composition, they minimise the risk of toxic shock, and they don’t contain perfumes, cellulose, viscose, dioxins, etc., which can damage women’s skin and cause inflammation and allergies. The main reason for their exceptional and unique character is their natural composition. They are made from the purest certified organic cotton on our planet. To ensure that Masmi products are made from 100% organic cotton, are hypoallergenic and biodegradable, they hold as many as eight certificates: ICEA, GOTS, FSC, VEGAN, COTTON NATURAL, NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. All products are clinically tested.
